Some people track every class. Madison stopped counting a long time ago.
She’s been at Destination CrossFit for eleven years — long enough to watch the rig move twice, long enough that the 4:30 class holds her corner without being asked. She came for a two-year job at Whitman College and stayed because DCF became one of the things that made Walla Walla feel like home.
She has a 1,000 class milestone sign somewhere. That’s not the point. The point is she’s still here — still scaling, still modifying, still dragging herself to the gym on the days she doesn’t feel like it, because she knows future-Madison will be glad she did.
She Almost Didn’t Stay
When Madison moved to Walla Walla in 2015 for a job at Whitman College, she had just finished four years as a competitive college softball pitcher. She was burned out, directionless, and deeply uninterested in any kind of structured exercise.
“I just didn’t want to do anything,” she told Nikki on the latest episode of Actually Doing Things. “For the first six or eight months, that was it.”
Then a colleague convinced her to try CrossFit Walla Walla. She did — for exactly one month before it closed. The new gym coming was DCF. She followed the crowd. She kept showing up. And a decade later, she’s over class number 1,000.

What 1,000 Classes Actually Looks Like
Here’s what Madison’s version of consistency doesn’t look like: perfect attendance, flawless performance, or doing every movement as written.
She scales everything. She has a shoulder that requires modifications. She will not do a box jump — not today, not ever — and she’s made her peace with that. She travels for work every fall and goes six weeks without touching a barbell, on purpose, without guilt.
“I’ve taught myself to be okay with that,” she said. “And I’m pretty good at coming back.”
What keeps her coming back, she said, is finding the thing she enjoys in each workout and building her day around that. She called it rehiring yourself — the practice of finding what still makes you want to show up, even when you don’t love every part of the job.
For Madison, some days it’s the hang power cleans. Some days it’s the music. Some days it’s just the 4:30 crew and the corner spot they’ve held for her all these years.
Why This Matters for You
If you haven’t been in for a while, Madison’s story is your permission slip.
Consistency at DCF doesn’t mean doing it perfectly. It means having a home base. A coach who knows you. A class time that fits your life. The same people cheering for you whether you’ve been gone two days or two months.
That’s what 1,000 classes is made of. Not perfection. Just a gym that makes you want to come back.
