What Is CrossFit?
CrossFit is a training method built around constantly varied, functional movements performed at an intensity that is appropriate for each person. In plain language, it combines strength training, cardiovascular conditioning, mobility and skill work to help you become stronger, fitter and more capable.
Functional movements are movements that have a purpose beyond the gym. Squatting, lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, running and getting up from the floor all support the way you move through everyday life. A class might use barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, rowing machines, bodyweight exercises or running, but you will always receive coaching and a clear explanation of the session.
CrossFit is not only for competitive athletes. It can work for beginners, busy professionals, parents, older adults and experienced gym members because each workout can be adapted. A coach can change the movement, weight, range of motion, number of repetitions or pace while keeping the purpose of the workout intact.
That means people with different experience levels can train in the same class without being expected to do the same version of every exercise. You do not need previous CrossFit experience, and you do not need to get fit before joining. The right place to begin is at your current level.
Why Train at Destination CrossFit?
01
Expert Coaching That Knows You
Destination CrossFit has served the Walla Walla community since 2016. Owner and CF-L3 coach Nikki Sharp leads a team that takes time to understand your goals, experience and concerns. You will receive instruction, feedback and help choosing the right option for the day, rather than being left to figure it out alone.
02
Scalable for Every Experience Level
Our approach is mechanics first. Coaches help you learn how to move well before asking you to move faster or lift more. If an exercise is not suitable, they can adjust the equipment, movement, range of motion, weight or pace so you can train with appropriate challenge and build confidence over time.
03
Fitness for Real Life
Most members are not full-time athletes. They have jobs, families, responsibilities and changing energy levels. Training should add to your life. CrossFit can help you build the strength, stamina, mobility and confidence to handle everyday tasks, enjoy active time with family and continue doing the things that matter to you.
04
Community and Accountability
Members regularly describe DCF as welcoming, encouraging and inclusive. Coaches know who you are, people celebrate one another’s progress and new members are helped to feel part of the gym. “Silly Humans, Serious Fitness” captures the culture: the coaching matters, the work is purposeful and there is still room to laugh and enjoy being here.
Inside a CrossFit Class
Most CrossFit classes follow a clear structure. The workout changes, but the coach, purpose and progression give each session a plan.
Duration – 1hour
How Long Is a CrossFit Class?
Most CrossFit classes last about one hour. This usually includes a briefing, warm-up, strength or skill work, the Workout of the Day and time to cool down. Check the live Destination CrossFit schedule for the latest class information.
What Happens During the Warm-up and Coaching?
Your coach begins by explaining the focus of the session, demonstrating the movements and outlining the intended goal. The warm-up then prepares your body through mobility, light cardiovascular work and movement practice. If the class includes strength or skill work, the coach will break it down and help you select an appropriate version.
What Is the Workout of the Day?
The Workout of the Day, often called the WOD, combines a selection of movements into a structured challenge. Workouts vary in length and format. Some focus on strength, some on conditioning and others combine several areas of fitness. The variety keeps training engaging while the wider program supports steady progress.
Can the Workout Be Scaled for Beginners?
Yes. You will not be expected to copy the most experienced person in the room. One member might use a barbell while another uses a lighter dumbbell. One might run while another rows. Your coach will help you choose movements, weights and a pace that match your current ability while preserving the goal of the workout.
